Application Note: Designing a Multiple Source/Detector Array for Image Capture on a Curved, Uneven Surface Using SolidWorks and OpticStudio 14

Prepared by Matias Calderini, BSc. Student, Physics, University of Ottawa; in co-operation with CMC Microsystems.

This application note demonstrates the use of SolidWorks, a 3D modeler program, and OpticStudio 14, a ray-tracing optical design program, for optimizing an optical fiber array for image capture and predicting performance of the array when targeting a curved, uneven surface of heterogeneous nature.

It includes a step-by-step method for developing simple conceptual designs using OpticStudio 14, building more complex designs in SolidWorks, and integrating the SolidWorks assemblies in the optical design software.

The intended users of this application note are researchers in the bio-medical field requiring optical detection methods for tissue image capture.
