Application Note: Ansys Macro For Electrostatic Micromotor Design and Optimization

Developed in conjunction with Mohamed A. Basha, Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Waterloo, this application note describes an ANSYS-based macro that automates the design of electrostatic micromotors with a rotor-to-stator pole ratio of 2:3. The macro efficiently optimised the geometry and dimensions the rotor poles to maximize driving torque for a fixed driving voltage.

This note will interest engineers and researchers who design and fabricate electrostatic motors and other electrostatically-driven actuators.

CMC is collaborating with researchers at Canadian universities to build a library of microsystems application notes. These documents are intended to help extend microsystems research in Canada by describing new techniques, processes, and design tools relating to microsystems, and to help stimulate new ideas that accelerate research and development activities.
